MKO cone mill
The IKA MKO 2000 is a high-performance flow mill designed for the wet fine grinding of hard and granular as well as crystalline materials. The MKO 2000 is ideally suited for the deagglomeration of suspensions. Thanks to its excellent dispersion results, in which a narrow particle size distribution is achieved in a single pass, the IKA MKO 2000 cone mill can be used in continuous processes. For particularly demanding grinding tasks in liquid media, the cone mill can be integrated into a recirculation line with a working capacity.
The MKO 2000 conical mill differs from the IKA MK 2000 colloid mill in the special design of the grinding tool. Its first stage is equipped with threaded teeth similar to the first stage of the colloid mill and serves for feeding and pre-grinding the product. The subsequent stages of the grinding tool - the conical rotor and stator - have a particularly hard coating with an extremely coarse surface texture instead of being threaded. The coating is made of high-quality materials, such as carbides or ceramics. Alternatively, IKA offers high-strength tools made of zirconium dioxide ceramics. During operation, the grinding tool creates areas with high shear forces, which allows materials with not only low but also medium and high viscosity to be processed. This achieves a narrower range of particle size distribution than when using colloid mills.
The conical design of the tool allows for a smooth adjustment of the gap between the rotor and stator as they move in the axial direction. The energy supplied to the system, and therefore the degree of dispersion, can be influenced by changing the gap between the cones and adjusting the rotor rotation speed. In cases where the technical specifications place high demands on the reproducibility of the dispersion results, the smooth adjustment of the gap is replaced by a system with a fixed arrangement of cones.
By reducing the gap between the rotor and stator and ensuring optimum friction between the grinding tool and the product particles, excellent grinding results can be achieved. The rotor and stator of the MKO cone mill do not touch each other, so the product being processed is not contaminated by tool abrasion, as is the case with corundum mills. IKA also manufactures mills of a special design that eliminates any metal contamination even when grinding abrasive materials. All of the above properties make the IKA cone mill a unique device for grinding and deagglomerating suspensions.
The IKA MKO 2000 cone mill range includes seven different sizes with capacities ranging from 25 to 6,000 l/h (data in relation to water). All sizes can be operated at the same rotor speed, which ensures reliable scalability.
