MHD installation


The IKA MHD unit for mixing liquid and solid components consists of an MHD flow machine, dosing devices, an electrical control system and is equipped with peripheral equipment in accordance with the customer's technical specifications.   The MHD unit allows mixing liquids and solids (powders and granules) in a continuous process, while eliminating dust and solvent emissions.   The miscible phases are fed into the MHD machine in proportional amounts and mixed in the working chamber.   Further dispersion in the lower part of the working chamber ensures the production of the finished product in just one pass through the machine.

The unique MHD machine, which is the core of the plant, is capable of processing materials with a high concentration of powdered solids (up to 80%) and products with a viscosity of up to 50,000 mPas.   An MHD installation operating in a continuous process pays for itself in a very short time, especially with significant production volumes.   The investment in the purchase of dosing equipment is significantly lower than the cost of bulky storage tanks and working vessels with mixing devices, the need for which will disappear when using the MHD system.   MHD plants provide the manufacturer with unrivaled flexibility, because with a given recipe, any quantity of product is produced with constant, consistently high quality.

Typically, solids are fed using a volumetric dosing device.   The feed rate is determined by the volume of substance that passes per unit of time and remains constant at the same bulk density and uniform feed into the dispenser.   When high dosing accuracy is required or when feeding substances with uneven filling density, gravimetric feeders are used.   The weight of solid components fed into the system is measured by one or more measuring devices and compared to a set value.   If deviations are detected in the operation of the feeding mechanism, corrective settings are automatically made.   Thus, changing the density of the backfill and other material characteristics does not affect the results of gravimetric dosing.   MHD units are supplied with high-precision dosing units,

Depending on the customer's needs, various options for the electrical control system of the installation are offered:
  • Manual control: basic locking devices are implemented to ensure safe operation.   Performance is controlled using conventional potentiometers.
  • Automatic control: the control system performs a certain sequence of operations in automatic mode.   After starting, the system runs automatically until stopped by the operator or until a safe stop occurs due to the operation of safety devices in the event of a failure.
  • Recipe management: various recipes implemented on the MHD plant can be created, modified and archived using the process control system.
