The HPH high-pressure homogenizer is a flow disperser for the energy-saving and continuous production of ultrafine emulsions. While the dispersion in other IKA flow machines is based on the rotor-stator principle of grinding and mixing, an even better homogenizing effect is achieved in the HPH machine by spontaneous decompression of the liquid from a pressure of 2000 bar to ambient pressure. With equal energy consumption, the IKA HPH homogenizer produces significantly finer emulsions than classic gear dispersers. The use of high-pressure homogenizers is recommended for production tasks that require particle grinding to the nanorange. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the lower productivity of high-pressure homogenizers compared to traditional dispersers.
The high-pressure homogenizer consists of a high-pressure piston pump and a homogenizing pressure valve. The pressure in the homogenizer is created by one or more piston pumps, which, using ceramic pistons, provide a volumetric flow rate that is independent of pressure and virtually pulsation-free. The required homogenization pressure is set by smooth adjustment. The pressure is released through the adjustable gap of the homogenizing valve. A sharp decrease in pressure in a moving liquid causes high turbulence and cavitation, which grinds the product.
IKA high-pressure homogenizers are designed to meet the individual needs of customers. It is possible to supply homogenizers in two sizes with one or more pistons of different diameters. The machines in the supply program thus differ in the maximum possible homogenization pressure (800 or 2,000 bar), the minimum permissible volume of the processed product (from 10 ml), the homogenization results and the productivity.
